Danica Abela, 22, is from Mġarr and has nurtured a lifelong interest in history which gradually evolved into a passion for historical archives and cultural heritage. She graduated in 2024 with a Bachelor’s degree in Knowledge and Information Management and now works at the Cathedral Archives of Malta. She is currently reading for Master’s in Archives and Records Management at the University of Malta.
Alongside her professional role, Danica has volunteered with several local archives, most notably at the National Archives of Malta through the Memorja Project. Working on this initiative allowed her to engage with personal testimonies that offer unique and often overlooked perspectives on Malta’s past. She also serves as Events Coordinator for the Friends of the National Archives of Malta, helping to promote archival awareness and public engagement.
Beyond the archival profession, music is another of Danica’s greatest passions. She is an active member of the Soċjetà Filarmonika Marija Mtellgħa s-Sema, her village’s band club, where she contributes both as a musician and as the society’s archivist, combining her love for music with her commitment to preserving local heritage.
